MANU CULTURAL ZONE

Itinerary:

Day 1: Cusco- Cloud Forest

An early journey by bus passing through the andean communities, We leave Cusco city, then make an stop to visit one of the Pre-Inca cementery at Ninamarca community, then we descent into the valley of Paucartambo folkloric town and have a short walk, continuing the trip we arrive to the Ajanaco point (3,530 masl) which also demark the boundaries of the Manu biosphere, this is the entrance to the rain forest because after this we descent into the Cloud Forest (1,550 masl) the habitat of Cock of the rock considered the National bird of Peru. We spend the night in lodge.

Day 2: Cloud Forest –Pantiacolla Lodge.

After to see the activity of the cock of the rock birds and have our day break we continue by bus and along the road we’ll see some small towns Chontachaca, Patria, Pillcopata all of them farmers of many tropical plantations like the coca, rice, manioc, sugar cane, bananas, and many others. Then we arrive to Atalaya port at (650 masl) since this place we take the motorized boat down the Alto Madre de Dios river where we can see many birds along the river side. Herons, Cormorants, Egrets parrots and macaws flying around. We navigate for about 3 hours until we get Pantiacolla, and spend the night in lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 3: Pantiacolla Lodge.

Is one of the lodges that is working in tourism more than ten years as a private reserved zones protecting about 900 has of land and forest including his wildlife, so is a good reason to stay and enjoy this place.

Today we start an early walk in one of the trails trying to see some mammals. The guide will explain you about the flora, fauna and their ecology, and then we go back to the lodge for break.

By the afternoon we’ll take other trails to increase our opportunity to see more wildlife .night in lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Pantiacolla Lodge - Tambo Blanquillo

Alter an early walk through the forest at the lodge we’ll take the boat down the Alto Madre de Dios River for about 5 hours then we stop to visit Boca Manu town (300masl) to visit the place. Later we continue our trip on the Madre de Dios River to Tamblo Blanquillo. In the afternoon we visit another Manu’s beautiful oxbow lake, Cocha Blanco. Night in lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Tambo Blanquillo (Macaw Clay Lick)

At first light of the day, we take the boat down the river to the Macaw Clay Lick to watch the nature activity of hundreds of parakeets, parrots and macaws eating clay. Then Going back up the river we stay at Tambo Blanquillo basic lodge, or camp next to that basic lodge, depending on availability. (B,LD)

Day 6: Tambo Blanquillo – Colorado – Puerto Maldonado

Today our journey by boat is 3 hours Aprox, To Colorado town where most of the habitants are gold miners, which is the most important economy of the area. From this place we’ll take a car to Puerto Carlos, and then will cross the Inambari River, after this we take other car to Puerto Maldonado. Night in hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 7: Puerto Maldonado - Cusco

Early in the morning after break, we take the flight to Cusco. Transfer to hotel. (B)

THINGS YOU SHOULD BRING FOR THE MANU TRIP:

Rainforest expeditions are not comfortable tours, but with the following equipment you will get the best out of the forest and yourself.

Note: Please consider that Manu flight schedule might be changed or - rarely - even be canceled due to weather conditions or maintenance. Therefore please make sure that you don't book your connecting flights the day after returning from Manu.
